The trapper

Last Sunday wasn't so relaxing. It's a bit of a long story, but basically we had a snake in the kitchen. The cats found it. I called the police. Then an exterminator. Animal control wouldn't come, because it wasn't very big, nor poisonous. Still, it wasn't what we wanted in the house.

No more snake...or so we think. We'll have the contractor triple check before we push the wine fridge back under the counter.

H has worried all week that the snake went into the cellar, rather than outside. His worry translated into a round of funny packages that arrived yesterday - snake repellent and a snake trap, both of which have funny odors. The snake trap creeps me out - you're supposed to check it daily, and then, of course, if something actually wanders in, you have to do the job of releasing it (the exterminator calmly explained this, "just add alittle olive oil, and then take it off and let it go in the woods."). The snake repellent is kind of funny, on the other hand. All natural (although they don't list ingredients on the package, so who knows), and it smells like summer camp.

Trappers

We went down to the cellar to scatter the repellant, set the trap (this seems a little counter-intuitive, but we did it anyway).  There was also quite a bit of inspecting and a little bit of cleaning out the bit of clutter that had collected in the corners...to make sure there weren't any snakes hiding in there. H wore his waders and insisted that I needed more than shorts and flip flops for the job. I complied. It was warm and a little stressful, but all in all happily uneventful!

The rest of the day has been spent relaxing, swimming and preparing for the arrival of another friend from Switzerland. Looking forward to his visit.
