On missing the boat

The houseguests are gone...at least for a few days. Round 2 arrives on Friday. Everything would be fine and in order, if we didn't have workmen here again this week. Yes, I am tired of the dirt and the dust and the unpredictability of it all. Will they really be done in time for us to clean up and be ready to welcome H's mom here on Friday? This is, officially, cutting it a bit close.

Speaking of cutting it close, last Saturday morning, when we were in the city with friends, we didn't make it across town in time to take a boat ride with everyone. It was something I was looking forward to doing, but we just knew it would be too tight to get there in time. Rather than trying, we sent a quick message and snuck off for a quiet little morning stroll à deux. It was a perfect moment - gathering some ideas for the house and wrapping up with a lovely little lunch at one of the oldest restaurants in Manhattan.

Great bistro food and fabulous people watching. What more could you ask for? Except maybe missing the boat again, when we go back to the city the weekend after next...
