And the winner is...

So, we survived our first dinner party in the new house. Actually, the dinner part was sort of secondary, but it was good (have I mentioned how much I love it that H loves to bbq?).

The main event of the night was a wine tasting. H and a couple of his colleagues figured it would be fun to orchestrate a little wine challenge. 3 categories: Best everyday red, best reasonable white, best fancy red (they set price brackets to adhere to for this). Everyone had to bring a bottle for each. Yes, it was excessive. I fretted a little bit about the copious amounts of alcohol, but all in all, everyone was pretty well behaved...and the wine was really tasty.

Here's how it went: all the bottles were decanted and tasted blindly, by category...so the group had to decipher the varietals, regions and what have you...and, of course,  decide on who brought the "best" bottle for each category. Surprise, surprise, a French man won all 3 rounds (with an Argentinean Cabernet Sauvignon, an American Viognier and a Supertuscan)...go figure.

And the winner is...

But everyone agreed the OPP (Other People's Pinot) had the best label. You can guess who picked the bottle. And yes, he played a little Naughty By Nature to set the tone for the pour...

One last thing: there will be a rematch later this summer...
