Faire le pont

In Switzerland, spring is marked with a number of long weekends. It's great. Today, for instance, everyone is off to mark Ascension, and most do something called "faire le pont" which means, you get (or take) Friday off, too, to (literally) bridge an extra long weekend. Of course the last long weekend was only a few weeks back (also a four day one!) and the next is also just around the corner. It means everyone gets a few decent back to back breaks from it all and a lovely transition into summer. Yes, this is something I miss (long for really) here! Did I mention I'm looking forward to Memorial Day?
