Knöpfli

H just got back from a trip to Switzerland - mostly for work, but with a bit of time for family and friends, too. His mom sent him back with a treat for me (us, really) - a Knöpfli (like spätzle only a bit smaller) press. I was so excited, I tried it out already last night.

Knöpfli

This was sort of a funny present, because H's mom knows I really don't like working with dough (she doesn't either - one more thing in common). But I really miss Knöpfli here, and the dough couldn't be easier to make (flour, salt, eggs, milk and water). Although I thought I was doing it all wrong (you put the gluey dough in a press right over boiling water), until I took press off, and there they were - lots of little Knöpfli  floating beautifully.

Looking forward to trying this again. Next time, I'll make a gratin with them (with some sauteed leeks, a bit of cream & Gruyère...yum).
